A brave survivor tells the harrowing story of her and her sons’ journey through abuse—and how she not only survived but learned to thrive after her trauma.

RISING ABOVE – The Trauma of Abuse by June Sheehan Berlinger is a powerful memoir that offers deep insight into the long road from trauma to healing. Through unflinching honesty, Berlinger shares her personal experiences with child abuse, incest, rape, and domestic violence—both as a victim and as a mother fighting to protect her sons from the same horrors.

Yet through the extreme pain came life-changing transformation.

Unlike other memoirs, RISING ABOVE also offers strategies that Berlinger used to survive, cope, and ultimately heal, paired with a detailed resource section to help both victims and professionals. Her journey led her to become a nationally recognized expert on domestic violence, and her dual perspective makes this book both profoundly personal and practical.

RISING ABOVE explores themes of betrayal and forgiveness, despair and redemption, and anguish and divine healing. It provides readers with hope and tangible steps forward.

This book is tailored to:

  • Victims of child abuse, incest, rape, and/or domestic violence.

  • People who are concerned about someone who may be a victim.

  • Health and mental health professionals, teachers, chaplains, law enforcement and lawyers.

  • College courses in counseling, criminal justice, nursing, education, or ministry.

Whether you're a victim or want to help others heal, RISING ABOVE – The Trauma of Abuse is an essential, compassionate guide to navigate the trauma, heal and experience a life of peace and love.
